Can I print top to bottom?

Modified on Wed, 15 May at 11:42 AM

Top to bottom printing is generally not recommended due to the mugs tapering off towards the top and bottom, and also due to there being more ceramic at the base of the mug where base and side wall meet,  which takes longer for heat to penetrate through.

Top to bottom printing can be achieved however may need testing on your relevant press for the correct application.

For best results mugs should be at room temperature before pressing. If the mugs are cold before being placed in the mug press it will become more difficult to produce a top to bottom image as the heat can not penetrate the ceramic of the mug as efficiently as if the mug was at room temperature.

Tip: Pre heating the base of the mug on a radiator or on a heat press to warm the ceramic can aid with top to bottom printing.
